Sunday nights at Martin Luther King Jr. park keep providing me with some very interesting people. I already wrote about the guy who watched Matt and I play tennis and tell us how good we were, which we weren't. Today brought a new beast for Joe, Jessie and Abby to witness. This man carried a boom box on his shoulder blasting 30's flapper music. Loud enough for the whole park to hear. He had with him a foot ball as well. He placed him self in the grassy area in between the tennis courts and the basketball courts and punted the ball straight up in the air and tried to catch it. He did this over and over again. After a while, he approached the tennis courts and stood, boom box in hand, at the fench, blasting the music directly at us, loud enough that we couldn't hear the other team calling out the score. Then, we hit a ball over the fence. He went and retrieved it, and looked at hit. He then threw it over to us saying, "This ball is for girls" (it was pink). I returned, "Well, two of the four of us are girls." And that was the best I could come up with. He wandered back to the field and punted the ball in the air again, and again tried to catch it. I liked him, and his music, but I never thought I would see a person like him. I'm glad I did.

And now I bring you some photos of this year's Folk Fest.

At the Dvotchka show on Saturday night, a man in a monkey suite was walking around the crowd, scaring just about everyone he came into contact with in the dark theater. Then he walked on stage and started dancing with the lead singer. He then threw bananas out to the crowd, one of which I almost caught and took his mask off and started playing the violin. It turns out he was with the opening band. Scared the hell out of me when he walked up and touched my shoulder and I turned around only to see a monkey man. Not as scary as the power tower though.

An old guy named Vance watched Matt and I play tennis shirtless and gave us compliments that we didn't deserve.

For the first time in my life, I did a pull-up. When I was in grade school and had to do the standerdized testing for fitness, I was always able to get one pull up, but that was because I jumped off the chair. Now I can do actual unassisted pull-ups. Which is sort of gratifying.
